Hack it — one user printed 1800 more pages after the warning before the toner finally ran out.

InfoWorld reports that 35% of users tracked with the Windows Sentinel monitoring tool have downgraded their PCs that shipped with Vista to Windows XP. Microsoft’s recent Mojave experiment, while garnering a certain amount of scientific criticism, had hoped to boost confidence in Windows Vista. It appears that ship is in for some rocky waters.

Wired has a feature on the gadgets and technology that Olympiads are using this year to train and outperform their competitors in the Summer Olympics. Windows Vista has built-in memory protection mechanisms like Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) and Data Execution Prevention (DEP) to prevent memory corruption exploits. Two researchers are presenting at BlackHat this week with ways to break them. The paper associated with the speech is available from TAOSSA.
